Life and Work in Quarantine

Mary, Henry, Georgie
Mary and her boys at home.

A few weeks ago, my eight year old Georgie made me a homemade crown. He placed it on my head and said, “Mommy, you are the quarantine queen.” He mentioned that I was in charge of our quarantine kingdom at home and I was “rocking it.” This exclamation of support and love made my week, heck, maybe even my year. But honestly, I am anything but the quarantine queen. I have been trying my best to just stay afloat with remote working, remote schooling and remote everything else; and most days it feels beyond chaotic.

As I try to stay focused instead of stressed, I am grateful for my health and that of my loved ones. Another thing I am truly grateful for these days is our amazing clients at Sol. They, like us, are dealing with so many unknowns but handling this time with such grace and grit. I have been so inspired by their ability to pivot on a dime and work within these new and truly different constraints. What I have also witnessed during this crisis, is the birth of new, brilliant ideas. I’ve seen businesses innovate new solutions virtually overnight to stay operational. I have seen foundations mobilize to increase funding for the most vulnerable populations in the hardest hit areas. I have witnessed organizations persevere in the face of the pandemic by making tough decisions that will continue to be necessary as the future remains uncertain.

Over the next few weeks, I am speaking to a handful of our clients to understand how their organizations have responded to COVID-19. From software developers to funders, we tap into a diverse pool of industry leaders to gain their insight. We, at Sol, are humbled to have the opportunity to work with these organizations. I can’t wait to share their stories with you here.

We all need some appreciation and love during this tough time so, if you’re interested in one of Georgie’s custom quarantine crowns, he’ll gladly make you one. Just tell him your favorite color and he may even deliver you a sweet message as well.
