It was a Wednesday afternoon in April. We were in a meeting brainstorming a name for our new break-dancing-ninja-robot band. Ideas, names, and lottery numbers flew around the room. Somehow, above the cacophony, I heard Chelsea next to me—she said a word. She said it with such clarity that I believed my ears might have picked up on some sort of heavenly sound.
The word rolled from her vocal chords, through her Atlanta-Southern accent. The word was spoken clearly, but my ears struggled. So I asked, unsure, “Kumbay’all?”
Then it was here. The word manifested, but no one knew what it was, what it meant, or what to do with it. The word spoke to an Oracle, and that Oracle’s name is Mary Tveit. The Oracle Mary shared her vision with the rest of Sol, and so it was.
Introducing: Kumbay’all, the Sol spirit of Fridays. Each Friday, we’ll offer you some Kumbay’all insight, gleaned from our collective decades’ experience in Southern wisdom and transcendence.
Y’all come back now…
